“For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds; casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ”
2 Corinthians 10:4-5
In this text Paul mentions weapons that pull down strong holds, and imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of YHWH. The knowledge of YHWH is His truth. What then are those imaginations that exalt against His truth? Those are the lies and delusions from the mind of man. And these are the ‘thoughts from the heart’ of man of Genesis 6:5, which according to YHWH are evil continually and the reason for the flood. Thus sin is our thoughts, it is the lies and delusions in our mind and heart.
What then is the weapon that pulls down these lies and delusions (false reasoning)? His truth pulls down the lies and delusions in our mind and heart.
What thoughts should we bring into captivity? These are of course the thoughts from the heart’ of man, again lies and delusions. We must obey Him with our thoughts. And we obey Him with our thoughts, when our mind is filled with His thoughts (Isaiah 55: 8). The thoughts from the heart of man are evil and do not obey Him. We can only obey Him with His thoughts in us.
In this text, Paul uses war language. What is the warfare this context is about? It’s about the war in our mind. The war of His truth and our lies and delusions. This is a spiritual battle. And to win in this spiritual battle, we must fill our minds with His thoughts, His truth.
Warfare is about power. The one who wins is the one who has gained the power, the one who will reign.
“Let not sin therefore reign…” Romans 6:12
