“But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.” 2 Corinthians 11:3
The Bible makes it clear time and again that we must watch over our thoughts. Sin begins in our mind (Genesis 6:5), our walk comes from our thoughts. See also Philippians 4:7. We must keep His words in our mind and heart, which is what protects us (Proverbs 4:20-23).
So it’s important that we protect our mind and our heart by filling it with the truth of His Word. That is what Paul did; in verse 10 he writes that the truth is in him. A corrupted mind arises when we do not fill our mind and heart with His truth, but with lies and delusions from the mind of man. Some believe that His truth is automatically in us when we come to faith. In 2 Corinthians 11 however, Paul writes to believers. And he writes that he fears that their minds will be corrupted by the temptation of lies and delusions. So it is a real danger for the believer.
Do not let your mind be corrupted by the lies and delusions of the world, by thoughts and opinions of man. And that means thoughts and opinions about His Word as well, instead of the truth of His Word. What is truth? On that subject I earlier wrote the blog: What is truth?
